New Canadian Electrical Code & Seminars

The new 2009 Canadian Electrical Code C22.1-09 contains 108 revisions and 14 new interpretations. It is now available for purchase from the Canadian Standards Association web site here

CSA is offering two-day workshops across Canada to help you understand the newest requirements and changes to the 2009 Canadian Electrical Code. Seminar dates & locations can be found here.

New Canadian ENERGY STAR Requirements For Water Heaters

As of January 1, 2009, the ENERGY STAR Programs in Canada and the United States will be promoting a new specification for domestic water heating products.

Gas Tankless requirements include:

  • Minimum Efficiency Rating EF ≥ 0.82
  • Other Ratings: LPM ≥ 9.5 over 42.8°C rise
  • Warranty: 10 years on heat exchanger and 5 years on parts
  • Efficiency rating test method: CSA P.7

Bosch 715, 800, and 920 models all meet or exceed these new Energy Star criteria. You can find out more about these new requirements here.

Bosch Training Schools To Be Held In BC & Alberta

What Are Industry Members Saying About Bosch & Astravan?

Mike Busch of Parkyn Bay Contracting says “I’ve enjoyed great support from Astravan over the years. I find Bosch is a great product, and simple to install. The 715 unit I just installed went in without a problem”.

Parts & Troubleshooting Assistance
If you are ever in need of parts or troubleshooting assistance, Astravan carries a full line of parts for all Bosch models. We offer you quick turnaround on all products with W, WR, WRS, AQ, and GWH prefixes dating back to 1984. Bosch units are built to last, and easy to repair as they age. When searching and ordering a part, use the full model description and gas type found on the rating plate. You will find parts lists and schematics within the Product Manuals on our web site here
Why Ceramic Burners?

Stainless steel burners work well and offer reasonable life expectancy under atmospheric burning conditions where combustion chambers are relatively large, and secondary air provides a cooling effect as it flows upwards around the burner.

However today’s compact, high-BTU input units use pre-mix air gas burners with smaller sealed combustion chambers, exposing burners to much higher temperatures. This subjects stainless units to high stresses due to expansion & contraction. Ceramic burners by their nature are unaffected by high temperatures, and they do not stress on heat-up/cool-down cycles.

Also, ceramic burners do not store nor waste heat on shutdown. Whereas a typical stainless burner can take 5 – 10 minutes to heat up and cool down (thereby wasting heat), ceramic units take only a minute to heat and cool.

Bosch ceramic burners, in use for over 15 years, are featured in all 715, 800, and 920 units.

Reduce Costs Of Heating Ventilation Air In ICI Buildings

Most industrial, commercial, and institutional buildings require large volumes of ventilation and make-up air. With today’s higher energy costs, pre-heating this air is a significant expense to building owners. Transpired solar absorber panels are proving to be effective in lowering these costs.
